Small world is a civilization game where players vie for conquest and control of a world that is simply too small to accommodate them all!
Small World is inhabited by a zany cast of characters such as dwarves, wizards, amazons, giants, orcs and even humans; who use their troops to occupy territory and conquer adjacent lands in order to push the other races off the face of the earth. Picking the right combination from the 14 different fantasy races and 20 unique special powers, players rush to expand their empires -- often at the expense of weaker neighbors. Yet they must also know when to push their own over-extended civilization into decline and ride a new one to victory.
Small World's design emphasizes the playful fantasy theme with rich details and components that beg to be played. The game includes: Two double-sided game boards, one for each of four possible player configurations, 14 Fantasy Races with matching banners & tokens, 20 Special Power badges, a variety of Troll Lairs, Mountains, Fortresses, Encampments, Holes-in-the-ground, 2 Heroes and even a Dragon, along with Victory Coins, 6 Player Summary Sheets, a Reinforcement Die, Rules Booklet and a Days of Wonder Online Access Number.
My kids love to control different races.
The game is a simple and fun area control game which lasts enough to engage people around the table and to make tactical decisions, but it is not not tedious or too luck driven like other area control games (Risk...). Plus, the different race and special powers make the game different at every match.
Good game to play,
Small World has been the best and funniest way to introduce my little 7 years old girl to fantasy board games. We play together as a family or with friends, quick to set up, simple rules and fast paced. Parts, board, tokens - the whole artwork - is really beautiful and catchy. Money well spent for a game that will guarantee fun and pleasant evenings for both adults and children.
An easy to learn family or group game. Not particularly heavy on strategy but with plenty of good group interaction (of the good, bad and ugly type!), Attributes and race mix options should give good replay-ability. I'd give the game an A.
My son loves it. My daughter doesn't. It's more about fun than strategy. The way the characters are created is genius. If 2 or more people like battling each other then it's a good choice, but if only 1 person in the family likes that then they will have a hard time finding a play partner.
Excellent game, played repeatedly. Quality pieces and lovely art work.
