2017 Golden Geek Best Family Board Game Winner
Step into the role of a tile-laying artist in Azul, a game that transports you to the heart of Portugal's tile artistry. Inspired by the stunning azulejos, traditional ceramic tiles that adorned the Royal Palace of Evora, Azul challenges you to create a masterpiece fit for a king.
In Azul, strategy and aesthetics blend seamlessly. Players take turns selecting vibrant, colored tiles from a shared supply. Your goal? To arrange these tiles on your board to create striking patterns and complete sets. The game is a delicate balance of choice and placement, with each decision impacting not only your masterpiece but also the opportunities available to your opponents.
Scoring and Strategy:
As the game unfolds, players score points based on how they've arranged their tiles. Clever planning and foresight are rewarded, as completing specific patterns and sets yields extra points. However, be cautious – any unused tiles will detract from your score. The key to success in Azul lies in adaptability and strategic thinking.
The game concludes when one player completes a row of tiles on their board, signaling the end of the round. The player with the most points emerges victorious, their creation a testament to skillful planning and aesthetic insight.
Azul is more than a game; it's an artistic journey. It’s perfect for families, friends, and anyone who enjoys a blend of simple mechanics, strategic depth, and stunning visual appeal. Will you rise to the challenge and create a masterpiece worthy of the king's approval?

Great game. Very simple to learn but it has layers of subtle complexity. It arrived within two days of purchase, so hats off to boardgamer.ie. I can not recommend this game enough and takes 30-45 minutes to play
It can be hard to find good 2 player games, this one is excellent and lots of fun. Really like the tiles and boards that come with it, good quality.
Easy rules but a lot of complexity once you start thinking about scoring. Also the game time is about 30-40 mins so handy for having a quick game
A great family game. Easy to pick up and can be played at any age
Easy to learn, fun, played it with 6, 9 and 10 year olds and they picked it up easily. Adults love the strategy of it. Good 40 minute game. Would recommend
