In Lords of Waterdeep, a strategy board game for 2-5 players, you take on the role of one of the masked Lords of Waterdeep, secret rulers of the city.
Waterdeep, the City of Splendors – the most resplendent jewel in the Forgotten Realms, and a den of political intrigue and shady back-alley dealings. In this game, the players are powerful lords vying for control of this great city. Its treasures and resources are ripe for the taking, and that which cannot be gained through trickery and negotiation must be taken by force!
In Lords of Waterdeep, a strategy board game for 2-5 players, you take on the role of one of the masked Lords of Waterdeep, secret rulers of the city. Through your agents, you recruit adventurers to go on quests on your behalf, earning rewards and increasing your influence over the city. Expand the city by purchasing new buildings that open up new actions on the board, and hinder – or help – the other lords by playing Intrigue cards to enact your carefully laid plans.

This is a worker placement style game set in the world of D&D. It is playable with 2 although works better with more players as alliances can form and strategies develop better. The game is very well produced, and is quick for everyone to pick up. One round will quickly get everyone up to speed, and after that then the rivalries and strategies can develop. Games last about an hour so it is not a huge time commitment, and it is a very sociable game to play too. Highly recommended.
Service from boardgamer.ie was also excellent.
Excellent service, very fast delivery to Cork, would definitely recommend and use them again.
Simple and great game. I recommend it to everyone.
Waterdeep is a fantastic game! As a devoted fan of medieval, fantasy and RPG genres, I got completely immersed in the setting of the game, and its dynamic and strategic pace make it only better. Beautiful board, cards and pieces contribute to make the experience even more attractive. The only thing that could be improved in future versions is changing the little cubes that represent warriors, rogues, clerics and mages by little miniatures. The best part is that you don't have to know anything of D&D to enjoy it (but certainly D&D fans enjoy it in another level of nostalgia)! It's a 9.5 out of 10 for me.
Game with simple rules and great theme... So many varieties... Quests, intrigues, gold, wizards, clerks, warriors, ... One of the best D&D games for sure.
Lords of Waterdeep is an essential buy, and that's high praise indeed. Why you ask? Well, Waterdeep is a very euro game. This is great in that it involves strategic and tactical thinking with a very low luck factor. Now this usually turns on one set of gamers while turning off another. However, what LoW does is unite these two factions. Aside from the pure euro-nature of the game, LoW is dripping in theme. Set in the Forgotten Realms of D&D the game is also a fantastic entry-level worker placement game for those afraid to dip their toes in euro-goodness. It's fun, it's light and it's quick. What's not to love?
